Point of proof for me is that I still have a huge old Betamax machine, and a Beta tape with the 1983 Ronnie Lane ARMS concerts on it when Jimmy Page played to a large audience for the first time since the ending of Zeppelin, and Jeff Beck's stellar set with Simon Phillips, and Fernando Saunders on bass, that machine and THAT tape still plays like the night it was recorded! My 5 year old VHS tapes of Stargate recorded from foxtel do not play. Our family used Betamax,as my Father worked for a television station which used primarily Beta, well I have hundreds of VHS because it was the norm, but the 3 machines I still own don't work Betamax was actually better:the cassettes are smaller, and the heads come out/up to meet the tape, much like old audio cassettes, but obviously far complex, but the tape itself isn't grabbed and taken out of the cassette, basically Betamax was simpler and less damage and harm was inflicted on the actual tape. I eventually realised timing/marketing have NOTHING to do with quality,as the example I like the most,as it's so simple:back when everybody used VHS video before DVD's were the medium for watching movies etc and very few,or a lot less used Betamax for video cassettes. Well I was one of those people, until I realised it was purely a timing/marketing thing, where when tape was still being used for the major proportion of the recording, but the end product became CD's Protools/Digidesign got in the studio owners and record company's ears i.

I just think too many people are concerned with Pro Tools being the accepted norm in the so called Pro Studios, where again supposedly all the big records are made.
